Happy early Thanksgiving!!
I am hosting this year, my first time EVER having all the in-laws over to my little bitty house.
I went to my parents house in Bandon this last weekend and had a "practice Thanksgiving" and I think it turned out pretty darn well. I did the turkey from start to finish, we even brined it the night before. It was really good actually!! It was nice to have a dry-run and figure out what we liked and didn't like before I do it all again on Thursday. Josh liked the sausage in the stuffing, but I added a bit too much broth so it was a little soggy, good to know for next time. We actually forgot about the stuffing until more than halfway through dinner! I think I will put Kate (my SIL) on making the mashed potatoes instead of the Yams my mother made.
Only one little disaster. After we were done eating and Josh and I were watching TV in the living room and my mom and sister were cleaning up the table. Mom sent Colleen into the dining room to get the rest of the gravy that was in the gravy dish. Colleen had re-filled it at the very end of dinner, so it was quite full of yummy gravy. "WAS" being the key word. Colleen walked into the living room to show me the perfectly spotlessly clean gravy dish. It took me a second to realize that it was not her or my mother who washed that dish clean, it was a wiener. I don't know which one did it, or if it was both of them, but somebody climbed onto the table after we left the room and swallowed about four cups (or more) of pure gravy. Gag. I figured one of them would look guilty, but no, Mikes belly looked a little rounder than usual - but that was the only hint of guilt. I also figured one of them would be sick that night from all that gravy, but everything was fine, the perfect crime.
Happy Birthday to my sister Mary! I realized I never called her yesterday!
